What is it?
Freckles are flat spots that occur in areas of the skin that have been exposed to the sun. Freckles can be tan, brown or black. They are prevalent in those with lighter skin or people with blond or red hair. Freckles are caused by over exposure to the sun, and represent signs of photo-aging.
Whilst there are no medical concerns associated with freckles (unless a change in shape or colour is detected), many people wish to have them removed.
At Rachel's Beauty World, we offer the very best treatment available to eradicate freckles, using IPL (intense pulsed light).
How does it work?
IPL works on the same principle as laser, in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells containing colour in the skin, melanin. Lasers have a single wavelength, whereas IPL delivers a multi-wavelength (or colours) with each pulse of light, instead of just one wavelength (colour).
By using filters, the IPL can be used to target specific chromophores (a collection of atoms which are responsible for the colour of a molecule), which absorb light and therefore remove freckles. Using this IPL method enhances the targeting and absorption of light without excessive energy levels that could cause damage to the surrounding area.
IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative technique, in that it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top laysre of skin (epidermis).
What will I feel during the treatment?
You will feel a slight tingling sensation, like an elastic band being pinged on the skin. But this should never be unbearable.
How long will it take to see results?
Immediate results are normally visible. However, it is normal for the pigmentation to get darker before it fades - this may take a week or longer. A course of four to six treatments, three to six weeks apart is recommended. However, this depends on the concentration of freckles and the area to be treated.
